Abstract

Objectives of this research are 1) to study the survival function and the dropout rate of students in Chiang Mai Rajabhat University and 2) to study the factor affecting the survival function of students in Chiang Mai Rajabhat University including gender, age, hometown, faculty, GPA of undergraduate level and GPA of high school level. The database of CMRU’s registration office was used as a secondary data for collecting the data from year 2014-2020 previously stored in the database. From total number of 15,508 students admitted as a freshmen from 2014-2017 , 24% of these students which is 3,716 dropped out of the university. 55% of all the dropped out students were expelled by academic rules of evaluation. The result of analyzing the survival function of students in Chiang Mai Rajabhat University class of 2014-2017 shows that the students form class 2014 at the 2nd time period (2nd semester) have the highest risk of dropping out with hazard rate of 0.16 and cumulative proportion surviving at end of interval equal 0.84. The results of studying the factor affecting the survival function of students in Chiang Mai Rajabhat University suggests that gender, age, faculty, GPA of undergraduate level and GPA of high school level are all influencing variables except hometown which has no statistical significance at level 0.05 in the study of survival function of students from class of 2019 and 2020 with the p-value of 0.0779 and 0.085 respectively
